Soft shelled Water turtle
Softshell turtle Softshell turtle, (family Trionychidae), any of about 30 turtle species characterized by a flattened shell. The shell lacks the epidermal scutes (large scales) characteristic of most turtles, as in the leather back sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), and the bony architecture of the shell is reduced.Their feet are webbed and are three-clawed, hence the family name "Trionychidae," which means "three-clawed." The carapace color of each type of softshell turtle tends to match the sand and/or mud color of its geographical region, assisting in their "lie in wait" feeding methodology.
