-Mud Turtles are carnivorous and will eat small insects, tadpoles and earthworms
- Kinosternon subrubrum, or the common mud turtle, is one of the most common pet turtles in North America.
-Females will lay up to 2-6 eggs.
- They prefer shallow, soft-bottomed, slow-moving water with abundant vegetation. Individuals can be seen prowling pond bottoms during warmer months.
-Mud turtles migrate 200-400 meters from their pond to nest.
-Mating season: Late April to May.
HERE AT ALAMEDA:
Our Mud Turtles are found in the Education Center. You can find our two Mud Turtles playing in the water.They have whiskers and are the only species to have whiskers. They use theses as a sensory when they bury themselves in the mud.They can release an odor in the water when threatened. One of the two has 3 legs.
